My role on this project was experiential design intern at Giant Spoon. I worked with senior designer Kristina Soteri, and creative director Liv-Jene Fagon. I was primarily responsible for developing the facade, the chrome lipstick centerpiece, and the ‘Explore Your Core’ touchpoint.
To highlight the artistry of Black creators, and Black-owned businesses carried at Walmart, Giant Spoon developed three ‘Makers Studio’ activations across a variety of festivals in summer 2023. As a presenting sponsor of BeautyCon, Walmart came to Giant Spoon to develop a 40’x40’ Slayground, where attendees could engage in judgment-free beauty play, express their own creativity, and learn more about the stories behind the Black beauty creators carried at Walmart.

Guests were greeted by our dynamic facade in bright magenta and Walmart’s light blue. The wonky loop-di-loop evoked surreal playground slides, and the ultra-shiny chrome centerpiece paired with the gradient flooring pulled attendees inside.

Once inside, a set of bubbly-chrome vanity mirrors highlighted different TikTok famous beauty ‘cores.’ Guests could swipe through different AR filters that let them try on a variety of looks, from mermaid-core to y2k-core. Once guests had found their core, on-site MUAs helped with a one-product application.

Tik-Tok posing coach David Suh helped our it-girls find their perfect angle at our photo moment. Dynamic lighting and set design produced two trendy shots for guests to share.

Guest had the chance take home their favorite shade of a Walmart beauty product at our keychain station. Friends could customized matching friendship bracelets with matching shades attached.
